Looong road … looong run
And still many bridges to cross and many miles to go until D-Day
Sundays are BIG run days in the marathon training schedule, and some are just easier than others. This was not one
. I wanted to finish the rough draft of a synopsis before I laced up the runners, but by the time I was done, I had serious trouble actually booting myself out the door. My saving grace was DD #2 on her bike … my personal cheerleading squad, support crew, and photographer.
The first mile sucked big time. I felt like wood — thought I’d never make it. But then I thought of Meretta doing her run across the country somewhere, and I kept plodding … one foot after the other. We hit the hills (real easy to do in a ski resort ) and my knee started protesting. Found a better grade of incline, kept going. And by 19 kilometers or so … I was doing great!!! Just flying. Numb, but flying — in my mind, anyway. Probably resembled an old lady shuffling in reality. The lesson learned? Keep at it. Keep putting one foot in front of the other with your eye on the goal — and you can conquer those mental and physical barriers and blow through in the end. It’s an empowering exercise, one a day like today shows can work – both in writing and in running.
Oh …and those jeans are feeling just a little looser. Now THAT is a nice feeling
Happy weekend all.

Meretta Says:
Great stuff, Loreth. Keep at it, my friend.
And um…by 19 km I was hobbling up the driveway, totally impressed that I’d done it, but my legs were toast so I was definitely doing that old lady shuffle thing. Legs feel good now (talk to me tomorrow
and I’ve pulled a muscle in my neck (must be all that side to side scanning of the underbrush looking for bears on the prowl
but YAY!! We did it!
Loreth Says:
I’m still chuckling about the neck muscles. Heheh .. I used to get cramp in my forearm from holding one of those old clunker walkmen things
