PASSION TALK

It’s a sign! It’s a bud. A small purplish-pink nub, the beginning of a beautiful and sensual thing — I hope!
This is Passion Talk, the rather appropriately-named orchid my man presented me in honor of my first (note the optimism here
) three-book deal with Silhouette. For months I enjoyed the exquisite blooms, the layers of delicate mystery. They spoke to me as I wrote those books over a period of a year, and they made my office friendly. But blooms don’t last, and I missed their faces when they went.
Passion Talk shot out three new thick and glossy leaves — and each time I hoped — but nary a bud. We tried all sorts of mystical techniques to coax it to flower, until DH took it off to his office which has a good constantly warm temperature (I like open windows at night, even in winter). And finally — a sign. Or is it? Let it be so. Because then Passion Talk can come home!
And I particularly like the symbolism here as I work on the buds of my new project
Now to coax my other orchid into bloom ….

I can feel it in my fingahs, I can feel it in my … toes …

Aren’t they cute? Little vignettes like this — especially of those enjoying their golden years – always make me smile. They just make it all seem worthwhile.

ROLL ON MONDAY!

It’s late. The hours are creeping towards morning, but the deck is clear … let the week begin
This is my temporary office — I move out and into another room come October. Our house is like one giant game of muscial chairs, but I’m lucky to have a nook I call totally my own.
My last office was deep purple and green and I loved the mood. Not sure what color I want the next one to be? Any ideas? I adore color. It feeds me. I think for the next office I want something that can be really mellow with dim lights, bright and energetic in higher lighting or sunlight, and warm on dark rainforest winter days. Not orange though. It’s not a consistent color for me. Any palette ideas? I’m thinking of doing a before and after a la Eve.

A SUNDAY VISITOR

And no writing for me today — I got chores
But if I can finish the whole lot by nightfall … I’m in for an intensely-focused writing week, I hope. I’m getting to know my new characters and I plan to spend some quality time with them

BONUS DAY

The weather guy said: RAIN. And hah … this is what we got!! Beach weather, volley ball weather, swimming weather, along with a fine dusting of snow on Wedge Mountain (the wedge-shaped peak
in the far distance second from left) . This is Rainbow Beach bordering Alta Lake, and behind it – Blackcomb Mountain with the ski runs. And this was the starting point of an absolutely awesome 20-kilometer run today. I am a happy camper.

And Meretta is way too smart for these games. Yup — bat box. I was hoping the odd angle, bleak sky and the sports centre buildings in the background would skew the issue, but nah ah. Here is a more humane shot
And yes, DH and his ‘people’ are responsible.
I’m trying to post pics with lower resolution, but I don’t think they look as pretty now. But I am hoping the site will eventually load faster. If it’s too slow, would you let me know?

WHAT IS IT?

Any guesses?
I’ve been scarce in cyberspace today — my other life catching up, as it is prone to do. But at least dd#2 is home safe, which means my body clock should be back in working order come Monday. I am getting up earlier each day … but that just means I am tired earlier at night. Hope this gets easier or I’m screwed come June 29th when schools lock down for the summer.
I did, however, manage to find time to follow the breadcrumbs left by Alison Kent to a rather thought-provoking piece by agent Jennifer Jackson which in turn led to this one by Kelly Link. Thought I’d share.
In another blog I like to frequent, Barry Eisler gives his take on the numbers. And .. well … I just like Barry Eisler. In other writing-related news … I’m interested in seeing this article when I get my paws on the next Vanity Fair — one of my all-time favorite rags, I might add
And that’s me for the day.
