CAN YOU SEE HER?

spot-the-bear.JPG

This bear and I had just experienced a real close face-to-face when I peeped over the deck railing with my camera, just as she reared up to peek back over the deck. DH, behind me, yelled at her to scoot, and she and her mum trundled up the bank. I am constantly amazed at how fast these big beasts move, and how often they look like humans in bear suits from behind :). The silver balls are rain, and you can see their big wet paw prints on the concrete.

In writing news … I AM BOOKED FOR SURREY !! I am SO excited. I know, I know, I’m like a kid sometimes … most times … but I am also signed up for two intense pre-conference master classes, one with Bob Mayer, and another with La Donald. The actual conference is also literally *cough, cough* jam-packed with heavy hitters and workshops that I just can’t wait to tuck in to.

I’ve been wanting to go for some years, and this time around, I’m finally biting the bullet. Or hurting the wallet, or whatever … but I feel I really need this at this point, especially if I want to take my work to another level. I also need the physical connection with other writers. This is a lonely job, and as a natural-born loner, I’m well suited to it. But every now and then … well, I need to prove to myself that there really are real live people out there, and that this business is tangible. If you know what I mean?

I know exactly how you feel. I’m a loner by nature so I thought being home with mom wouldn’t be a big deal – but I have to admit that lately I’ve felt very lonely and isolated from everybody else. It sounds like fun – when is it (I know, I could follow the link, but that’s too easy).

  2. Loreth Says:

Its October 20, 21, 22 — with the pre-conference master classes on October 19. Any vague-remote-maybe chance you can come, Bailey? It’s soooo nice and damp and cool here in the fall … *Loreth wiggles the carrot* :)

I’m still trying to convince Toni and Meretta. I think I just maybeeee might have luck with Toni???? The creator of the BBC Sharpe series — Bernard Cornwell — will be there. *Loreth wiggles the other carrot with evil grin*

Is there an RWA group that meets anywhere near you, Bailey?

  3. Bailey Stewart Says:

Probably, but since I’m having a hard time finding anybody to sit with mom just so I can go to the grocery store I think the chances of me getting to a meeting would be near to impossible. Plus, it’s kind of expensive. But I do have the RWA form printed out and sitting on my desk while I contemplate. You don’t have to be a member of a local to join the national one do you?

I would love to go there – but see above explanation, I’m still trying to figure a day out. :(

  4. Loreth Says:

Oh goodness, Bailey, I wish there was a way you could get one day off a week. I’m sure you really need it — who doesn’t? Or at least one day off a month where you could maybe attend the writer’s group meeting.

I don’t believe you need to be a local chapter member to be an RWA member — must check on that again. I hope you’re going to enter my Fall contest …. I will be sponsoring a one-year RWA membership for the winner — or a six month Harlequin/Silhouette subscription, should the winner be a reader and not a romance writer :)

  5. Bailey Stewart Says:

Oh my. Hmmmmm. Don’t I enter all of your contests?

  6. meretta Says:

Oooh. I wish I could go, Loreth. I do, I do, I DO!! But I can’t. Not enough time or money. You’ll gleen so much, though! So happy you’ve (ahem, cough, cough) bitten the bullet. ;)

  7. Loreth Says:

Of course you do, Bailey!! And I love you for it!!! That was just my very unsubtle way of reminding everyone out there about my contest :) :)

Meretta … I will take notes!! I will share notes!!

  8. meretta Says:

    Thank you!!
