THE END GAME … AND BEGIN AGAIN

vic-marathon-2006-7-ks-to-go.jpg

It’s gone live!! My daily online read END GAME.

All mercenary Grant McDonough wants is to forget the woman who rejected his proposal and married one of his best friends. But when he’s forced to make a stop in a remote region of the Sudan for emergency repairs to his plane, he walks straight into the one woman he never wanted to see again!

It’s soon clear to Grant that Dr. Elizabeth Waring is in trouble—serious trouble. And being a man of honor, Grant is compelled to protect her, even if it means getting caught up in a deadly game…”

The first short chapter has been posted –> here, and one additional chapter will be loaded each day for a total of 20 as the story counts down to the End Game. Please pop by and visit me at eHarlequin, where there is also a link to “Discuss it!” I’d love to hear your thoughts.

And one week after the marathon, I’m back in the running — training, that is. This time for the Honolulu Marathon which runs December 10 — exactly eight weeks from now. Last spring I bought a pair of board shorts emblazoned with big Hawaiian flowers to officially symbolize my goal. And to remember why I started running seriously – to honor my dad. To honor life. To be strong and live it to the full. I found I had the need to do this when I turned the same age he was when he died. He used to be an athlete. And he pretty much lived in a pair of tatty old Hawaiian shorts whenever he could. His shorts became a family joke, and I know my mother wished they’d finally give up the ghost, but he departed this world before they did.

I trained in my shorts over the spring and summer and into the fall, and I wore my shorts for the Victoria Marathon (above). I could have made a more practical choice, but I’d made a commitment. Drenched with rain they plastered to my legs for the entire 42 kilometres, and the ends chafed my skin raw. But I triumphed, and my dad was with me every step of the way. I will now take those short with me to Honolulu. And I will run there in his memory. Where the shorts belong.

Funny how these little rituals come to dominate our lives, and shape our goals and dreams. Do you have any similar quirks or traditions?

That is a great photo of you, Loreth! I love it. And just think of how warm it will be in Honolulu. I’m glad that you’ve got your dad with you in spirit. Run well!

And I loved the online read too. You’ve got me hooked!

And big breath out for the American Title contest. Finally the first round begins. For a bit there, I was beginning to wonder if I’d imagined it all. ;)

I forgot to say I think my friend is running the marathon (Bill and his partner Deb). I must check :)
