RED SKY WARNING
You know what they say about a red sky in the morning … a shepherd’s warning? Well, Mother Nature, she don’t lie. That startling red dawn shot from my deck heralded change all right — the heavens have suddenly turned dark and dropped low. Rain batters our roof and wind rattles branches outside. We have a fire crackling in the hearth, and the snow is falling thick up in the alpine. Winter, I believe, is officially nosing under the door.
And winter means books. Lots of books. And writing. By the fire
PS: Can you see two of my blue “babies” on the branches, waiting for their breakfast? I only noticed they were there watching me after I looked at the photo — it was pretty dark out.

Love on the run? A passion too dangerous? The next chapter of my online read goes live –> here. One chapter is posted on eHarlequin each day just after midnight EST.

Anna Lucia Says:
LOL, I was blogging about ‘winter’s nose’ the other day. Isn’t it funny we can be so far apart, and experiencing so similar a thing.
Although I don’t get the snow.
Or the bears.
Toni Anderson Says:
LOL at the birds!! Beautiful picture. I still think it is a shock, that first day when you realize winter is coming–NOW! and you know you are powerless to hold it back.
We’re having a weird return of sunny warm (+C) weather and I’m making the most of it
Meretta Says:
We’re having a bit of sunshine and warm temps here too. The other day we actually made it up to 10 C. Amazing.
Love the birds watching and waiting for you, Loreth.
I’ve never heard the “shepard’s warning” part of that. For me, it’s always been “sailor’s warning”. A bit puzzling as I’m landlocked?
Loreth Says:
Ah, but Anna, I have gone and checked your blog and you say it far more eloquently than I!! Go take a –>> look everyone — and you will see why I can’t wait to read this lady’s voice in print
I must have a fondness for the ‘nose’ analogy — I just received my author copies of RULES OF RE-ENGAGEMENT, flipped a book open, and see that I have the damp chill of the East River ‘nosing’ into my hero’s coat
Loreth Says:
I know exactly what you mean about that sudden realization that it’s coming no matter what, Toni.
And Meretta, I believe I have seen it both ways. I’m not sure which is the original — anyone know? Shepherd or Sailor?
Toni Anderson Says:
I’ve always heard the Shepards warning–nothing about sailors… Those prairie folk are funny
catslady Says:
First, I want to thank you for my copy of “The Heart of the Mercenary” which arrived today
That picture is gorgeous – you should enter it somewhere.
We’re due to get that weather some time today but the good news is it’s suppose to clear up for Halloween and all the trick or treaters.
Thanks again.
Bailey Stewart Says:
I’ve always heard sailors warning.
We’re in the 60′s today and then back up into the upper 70′s for the rest of the week. It’s weird – yesterday the high was 84 and today it will be somewhere in the mid-60s. That’s Texas for you, just can’t make up its mind.
Spamarama is back!
Loreth Says:
BAILEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is SO GOOD to have you back, hon. Must go for my spamaram fix ….
Loreth Says:
Catslady — it’s my pleasure
. Thanks for popping by to let me know the MERC arrived safely. And have a fabulously spooky Halloween!
