HOME

I’m back from Surrey International Writers’ Conference – an inspiring, energizing, jam-packed and truly international conference I can highly recommend. The atmosphere at this conference is said to be a nurturing one — and it’s true. No sense of ego, or cliques, and the big guns in the industry were warm and approachable. The focus was on craft and great writing across the genres — from mysteries and thrillers to sci-fi/fantasy, poetry and romance – and I found that attending non-romance-specific workshops sparked my creativity in new and surprising ways. This is also a great conference for a pitch.

I met some wonderful people I hope I will see again, and there is nothing quite like being in a room with 800 people all passionately in love with the written word.

Catching up on a few things now ….

End Game : “The last person mercenary Grant McDonough expects to see in an airport bar in Sudan is his ex-lover, Dr. Elizabeth Waring. And that’s not the only surprise in store for him in the thrilling new Daily Read, End Game!”

Another chapter of my daily online read goes live here  –> here. Please pop by and visit me at eHarlequin, where there is also a link to “Discuss it!”

BEAR WITH ME …

mama-n-cubs.jpg

Aren’t you glad I haven’t bored you with my bear stories for a while?

I saw what I think will be my last for the season — the weather has turned cold and they’ll be off into hibernation pretty soon. It’s one of the things I do love about where I live now, the events that so clearly mark the change in seasons. Africa was special in its own way — it’s in my blood and it’s bold, but it doesn’t have seasons like Canada :).

I won’t be checking in until Monday — off to the Surrey International Writers’ Conference. Be good while I’m gone ;)

You know you are a writer when?

You arrive to pick your daughter up from school. With slippers on.

Your daughter looks at your feet, and says: “You’re on a deadline, aren’t you, mum?”

You look at your slippers and wonder how they got there.

How do your kids tell you’re on a deadline?

Aint she a pretty city

shes-a-beautiful-city.JPG

Victoria — a fairytale town. Me, my sister and DD#2 enjoying the night sights in the provincial capital post-marathon last weekend. Those would be the parliament buildings lit up across the Inner Harbour and reflected in the water.

End Game : “The last person mercenary Grant McDonough expects to see in an airport bar in Sudan is his ex-lover, Dr. Elizabeth Waring. And that’s not the only surprise in store for him in the thrilling new Daily Read, End Game!”

The second chapter of my daily online read has gone live –> here. A new chapter will be loaded each day for a total of 20 as the story counts down as Grant and Elizabeth battle in what has clearly become their …  end game.
