Want my scientific (ahem) theory? The snow mountain is comprised of snow plowed from the roads, which means gravel content. The snow pile melts a little, shrinks out from under the gravel, and leaves a layer of gravel insulating the remainder of the mountain. It appears that the bulldozer men go in and remove the layer of gravel, and then wait for another melt cycle and repeat (based on an observation period of, oh, about three minutes ;). I think it will be here until the snow flies again. And yeah, it’s still pretty cold at night. It was maybe five degrees (C) above freezing these past mornings. It’s snow country
