HUDSON’s FIRST BEAR

They’re baaack, out and munching about. So far the Beswetherick clan has sighted four bruins this season. Hudson zero, until today …. I was nervous about how he might react. Didn’t want him bringing the bruin charging back at me in all his puppy excitement at things new.

And then today, as we were out doing a retrieve session on the lower soccer fields at Myrtle Philip school, first the frisbee, then the bumper … he got wind of something wild …

Oops, in my excitement trying to photograph the bruin, control puppy, and not drop all the gear, frisbee got in the way, and bear dipped out of sight…

Hmmm … maybe this is why the Mounties were mounted, er, parked outside the park. School kidlets were due out, and due care is taken when there is a bear on school grounds.

On Thursday I learned that COLD CASE AFFAIR is a RITA finalist for best Contemporary Series Romance: Suspense/Adventure.

Thank you to all the judges who enjoyed Muirinn and Jet’s story, and thank to Romance Writers of America for making an honor like this possible.

A frosty morning walk at Green Lake, an oasis of calm hidden from the Whistler Winter 2010 Olympic party, especially at the crack of dawn as the sun creeps over those peeks.

Hudson and I worked on whistle recalls today–hopefully this will come in handy while cross country skiing should I need to control him from a distance, or stop him at once. Here he sits waiting for the whistle (three sharp blasts).

And heeeere he comes! Floppy, happy ears and all. At this point it’s more about the treaties than anything else.

Hudson sitting on Green Lake ice and in Labrador heaven, watching water ripple and listening to morning ducks in the frosted dry reeds.

He makes me smile.
