Coming November 2008:-
RCMP sergeant Gabriel Caruso is at the end of his road – literally. In taking a down a notorious serial killer the dedicated career cop lost the lives of four members of his detachment, including his fiancée.
Now the force Gabe has devoted his life to is sidelining him to Black Arrow Falls, an isolated and tiny Yukon community about as far north as you can hang a Mountie out to dry.
On the verge of a winter with 24-hour nights and endless snow, the closest thing to crime that the big city detective can now hope to tackle is a marauding moose, or a domestic disturbance. He arrives in Black Arrow – just south of the Artic Circle, a man lost, without a compass. Questioning every choice he has ever made in life.
Until the sadistic killer he put behind bars escapes, and comes north after him.
When the killer – a survivalist and ex-US Army Ranger who escaped Court Martial for war crimes — begins terrorizing Gabe’s new town, cutting them off from all access to the outside world, the Mountie is forced to team up with a local female tracker – Silver Karvonen – the striking and free-spirited daughter of a maverick Finnish prospector and a Native American mother. A woman who teaches Gabe to ‘see’ again, one footprint at a time. A woman who makes him love again.
A woman with a dark criminal secret of her own.
And in hunting down his nemesis, Gabe must either face crossing the policing line, or losing another woman he has come to love to a sadistic and cunning monster.
But the federal force has failed Silver badly in the past, and the Mounties could take her freedom away now.
The last thing in the world Silver needs is to get too close to this dangerous cop who threatens her in more ways than one.
A cheechako who will be gone in two years, once his posting is up …
